- GGI–OSOWOG aims at a transnational grid that moves renewable electricity across time zones and borders, so solar and wind are not wasted when local demand is low.

- For developing countries it is a bid to cut coal peak by importing daytime solar and exporting surplus, which is cheaper than every nation over-building storage alone.

- Purpose also includes skills, planning tools, and green finance so poor solar-rich States are not only raw-generation colonies.
When the idea was first floated in the ISA
- The International Solar Alliance was launched by India and France at COP21 Paris in 2015 and given a founding conference in New Delhi.
- One Sun One World One Grid was first floated by India at the First Assembly of the ISA in 2018.
- COP26 did not invent the slogan. It scaled an ISA idea into a UK-partnered Green Grids Initiative at a UN climate summit.
What it is not
- It is not a completed global grid in 2021. It is a political and engineering programme.
- It does not replace domestic storage, demand response, and national transmission such as India’s Green Energy Corridor.

The 2015 NDC promised a 33–35 per cent cut in emissions intensity by 2030, 40 per cent non-fossil power capacity, and a large forest sink. COP26’s Panchamrit raised the political bar, including 500 GW non-fossil, a billion-tonne cut and net zero by 2070. In August 2022 India updated the NDC to 45 per cent intensity reduction and 50 per cent non-fossil installed capacity by 2030. Per-capita equity remains India’s diplomatic line. Pledges now need coal-path honesty and real forest carbon.
