Revision summary
Moderate goals were council seats, ICS, and drain critique, not immediate independence. Methods were petitions and annual sessions that missed peasant and mill-hand life. The social base was presidency professionals speaking English public language. 1892 reforms were too small to prove the method worked. By the century’s end a hotter nationalist mood found them unconvincing.

Conclusion
- Explain failure as a gap between elite constitutionalism and a growing political public, not as personal cowardice.
- Note that Moderate work still built the Congress platform, drain theory, and a trained leadership that later phases used.
Moderates failed to carry conviction because their goals stayed within Empire, their methods stayed in the petition hall, and their social reach stayed urban and English. By 1900 a larger political nation wanted proof of power, not another memorial.

Trace India's consolidation process during early phase of independence in terms of polity, economy, education and international relations.
The Freedom Struggle
Princely integration and the 1950 Constitution, with the first general election, built the political union. The Planning Commission and the First Plan set a mixed, public-investment economy after Partition’s economic cut. Radhakrishnan and Mudaliar commissions and IIT Kharagpur began a national education architecture. Non-alignment, Panchsheel and Bandung defined an independent foreign policy while Kashmir stayed live. Consolidation was simultaneous on all four fronts, and incomplete on land, food and literacy.

What were the events that led to the Quit India Movement? Point out its results.
The Freedom Struggle
Britain took India into World War II without Congress consent, and the provincial ministries resigned. The Cripps Mission of 1942 offered post-war status without a real wartime national government. The AICC in Bombay on 8 August 1942 launched Quit India, and leaders were jailed the next day. Mass action, sabotage and local parallel governments followed, and then heavy repression followed those actions. The Muslim League gained organisational space, and the government’s claim to quiet rule did not recover. Independence in 1947 had many causes. 1942 was the mass proof that delay had a political price.

What was the difference between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore in their approach towards education and nationalism?
The Freedom Struggle
Gandhi’s Wardha scheme of 1937 put mother tongue, craft, and character at the centre of schooling. Tagore’s Santiniketan and Visva-Bharati put nature, art, and world learning at the centre. Gandhi’s nationalism was mass satyagraha and village swaraj. Tagore’s nationalism was freedom without the cult of the nation. Both opposed colonial rule; they split on industrial civilisation and on how open India should stay.
