Tribal Panchsheel is Jawaharlal Nehru’s five-point ethic for Adivasi policy. It still tests whether the state develops with tribes or over them.

- Nehru asked that people develop along their own genius, that tribal rights in land and forest be respected, that teams of their own people be trained, that over-administration be avoided, and that results be judged by human quality, not money spent.
- Verrier Elwin helped draft this line against both isolation as a zoo and sudden assimilation.
- G. S. Ghurye wanted faster Hindu-national absorption. Panchsheel was the official middle path after Independence.
Why it still matters
- Mining, dams, and roads in Fifth Schedule belts still break land and forest rights that Panchsheel named first.
- PESA and the Forest Rights Act, 2006 try to turn those ethics into statute, but gram sabha consent is often paper.
- Relevance today is a checklist: genius, land, own cadres, light administration, human results.

Evolution of the Indian Culture and Civilization
The statement is from the Srinivas village-studies tradition: the village as a designed microcosm of Indian civilisation. Design includes caste ecology, agrarian rank, ritual calendar and factional politics. Values: hierarchy-with-interdependence, local dharma, jati marriage, sacred geography. Marriott, Dube and Bailey showed regional versions of the same idea. Land reform, migration, 73rd Amendment and PESA have rewritten the plan without erasing rank.

Evolution of the Indian Culture and Civilization
S. R. Rao identified a burnt-brick tidal basin at Lothal as a dock beside warehouses and bead workshops. Gujarat Harappan coastal sites together support craft export to the Gulf and Mesopotamia (Meluhha). Some archaeologists prefer a reservoir reading; geomorphology of the estuary is still discussed. Even without the word dock, Lothal is a water-edge trade and craft town. International trade here is Bronze Age Gulf networks, not a modern port trust.
