Essay map
Opening scene
Anecdote
An old NAM family photo and a later table with more flags. Indian foreign policy did not become someone else’s camp overnight. The paradigm is a thicker toolbox. Write what changed: China, a diaspora, a energy, a Quad-era talk — without a party. The paradigm shifted in tools: more tables, a navy, a diaspora. The refusal to be a camp-follower is the constant.
Keep this in every paragraph
One stand
- Paradigm: from moral voice-plus-nonalignment to interest-plus-multi. Neighbourhood, a Indo-Pacific word, a Russia thread.

What the line is asking
- Changing: name two shifts. Indian: continuity of strategic autonomy.
Shifts
- Economy as diplomacy. Minilaterals. A harder China file.
Continuity
- UN, a developing-world claim, a diaspora care.
The counter
Every CM visit is not a new doctrine. Media ‘resets’ are not paradigms.
Tools, same spine
- From moral speech to capacity — vaccines, a rail, a ship.
- Multi-alignment is a method for a crowded room.
- Neighbourhood remains the hardest table.
- Sitting everywhere without an ethic is standing for nothing.
Drop one peg where it fits — not a data dump
Value addition
- NAM / Panchsheel The old grammar.
- Look East / Indo-Pacific A named shift — one will do.
- Quad / BRICS Toolkit, not a purity test.
- Neighbourhood first A doctrine-cousin — test on one case.
- UNGA Continuity of a voice.
Last 8–10 lines in the exam
Last paragraph
Indian foreign policy changed its instruments, not its need for a spine. More tables, a louder diaspora, a ship in a strait — these are a new paradigm of capacity. The old paradigm of not joining another’s war still explains why a republic bargains. Write continuity of autonomy and change of tools. A neighbourhood crisis will still fail a distant speech. Multipolar cleverness that cannot name a human cost is only cleverness. Close on more tools and the same refusal to be a camp-follower. That is a changing paradigm that can still be told as a republic’s story.
