Essay map

Opening scene

Anecdote

A patrol clash and an empty SAARC chair in the same decade’s weather. India–China is a border plus a trade. SAARC politics is a South Asian we that often cannot sit. 2020 made the ridge loud. A ridge is a fact. SAARC is a club that must still be able to meet. Write both without a cartoon of either neighbour.

Keep this in every paragraph

One stand

  • Relations: diplomacy, a deficit, a Tibet/Taiwan one-liner max. SAARC: charter, a last summit memory, a alternative grouping.

Heading map

What the line is asking

  • Two files in one essay: bilateral and regional.

China / SAARC

  • Disengagement talk vs a silent salami. Trade dependence.
  • SAARC’s veto culture; connectivity that went around.

The counter

Decoupling as a slogan when supply chains are sticky. And blaming only one neighbour for SAARC’s full failure.

Ridge and club

  • Border, trade, a river, a student — the relationship.
  • SAARC’s pause is a politics, not a geography.
  • BIMSTEC and a bilateral are tools; a vacuum is also a China story.
  • Hold the ridge; keep a door for a people, not only a flag.

Drop one peg where it fits — not a data dump

Value addition

  • LAC / protocols 2020 as a hinge — cool.
  • Trade deficit The economic leash.
  • SAARC charter The stalled we.
  • BIMSTEC / SCO Workarounds — one line.
  • Panchsheel A plaque the ridge did not read.

Last 8–10 lines in the exam

Last paragraph

India–China relations are a ridge, a trade, a student visa, and a neighbourhood that watches. SAARC politics is whether a club of South Asia can still sit when one chair is a wound. Do not write a war-cry or a business brochure. Hold the ground that must be held; work the tables that can still meet; see Nepal, Bhutan, a Sri Lankan port as more than a scoreboard. A vacuum will be filled. Close on a ridge you will not bargain as a slogan, and a club you will still try to use. That is statecraft, not a map colour.
